Grace Notes – Gracious Victory

Grace Notes – Gracious Victory

“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin [by which it brings death] is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory [as conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord [always doing your best and doing more than is needed], being continually aware that your labor [even to the point of exhaustion] in the Lord is not futile nor wasted [it is never without purpose].”

                 1 Corinthians 15:56-58 AMP

Grace Perspective:

Sin stings. Sin destroys and ultimately brings death. Death is not only in the physical body but also in our relationship with God. But God provides a way to remove the sting that will ultimately separate us from Him forever. Through the cross, the Lord Jesus Christ conquered sin. He gives us victory over the death that sin brings.

Through Jesus Christ, we have been delivered from the final death, eternity apart from God. In Christ Jesus, we are assured of life with Him, both here and now and forever. Death is no longer an enemy as we live for Christ, steadfast and immovable, working for Him, and purposely living for Him.

A Touch of Grace:

What fear does death bring out in you?

What will help you remain steadfast and immovable as you purpose to live for Christ?

Grace Application:

Death stings deeply. The thought of death often brings great fear and anxiety. In this passage, the apostle Paul reminds us that the power of sin brings death…but God, through Jesus Christ, has conquered death.

My battle with sin often leaves me feeling weak and weary as I grieve my selfish pursuits. We all struggle with our flesh, which loves sin and hates when we seek to live in obedience to Christ. As we seek to die to our selfishness, fully admitting that we cannot conquer sin on our own and receive the forgiveness of sin found in Christ Jesus, we are free from the sharp sting death brings. We are free to live a life marked not by perfection but by steadfast faith in Jesus Christ. This freedom empowers us to live a life of faith, knowing that sin doesn’t define us, rule us, or determine our destiny.

Our faith is lived out doing the work (labor) He calls us to do, knowing that our efforts are not wasted but reveal to others the power of forgiveness found in Him. His love, compassion, and mercy help us remain immovable, eager to tell others that He has conquered sin and death. So, let’s invite those around us to share in His gracious victory over sin and death. May His grace strengthen you and give you hope, knowing that in Christ Jesus, we have victory over death.

Prayer

Gracious Father, I come to You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, thankful that You have conquered sin and death. In You, death has lost its sting. Fear no longer consumes my heart because, in Christ Jesus, I have eternal life with You. Holy Spirit gives me strength to remain steadfast, immovable, abounding in the work that points others towards the victory found in Christ Jesus, my Savior. Amen
