“Return, O my soul, to your rest;
for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.”
Psalm 116:7 AMPC
Grace Perspective:
Return and be refreshed. While rest and quietness are necessary for our physical bodies, our souls can remain restless and active. Life’s twists and turns can leave us worn out, body and soul. In these moments, it’s easy to forget God’s goodness. King David, the author of this Psalm, reminds his soul to turn to what’s true, so his mind and heart can find rest. He recalls God’s faithfulness in hearing his prayers and delivering him from distress. David’s soul found rest in God’s mercy and continuing care, even in suffering.
David’s words remind us that though life is often challenging and complicated, we can tell our souls that God hears our prayers and that in Christ Jesus, we have abundant blessings. When weary and worn, God graciously calls us to return to Him.
A Touch of Grace:
Where do your thoughts go when you’re tired?
What refreshes you?
Grace Application:
Life is hard, and it can be hard to know where to turn when we are worn out by the challenges life brings. Have you ever experienced weariness so deep that even sleep didn’t revive you? A season that seems unending with one hardship after another?
David knew what that was like. He ran from King Saul for years, who sought to kill him. Then, in his weariness, he reminded himself to turn his thoughts to God, who is faithful.
When life becomes difficult and rest is fleeting, turning to God will help recalibrate our hearts and minds. Remembering the times He has faithfully brought us through difficult circumstances and answered our prayers can help turn our thoughts from despair to hope. It’s in these moments that we can truly find rest in God’s unwavering faithfulness.
When I am mind-numbingly tired, reviewing how God has faithfully carried me through life’s most challenging moments helps my mind find peace and my body rest. While circumstances may not change, turning to God brings a sense of hope and stillness that helps calm my racing thoughts.
Remember God’s mercy and turn to Him to refresh your soul. Recall the times His mercy has brought you through difficult times, and let His grace refresh your soul. It’s in these moments of remembrance that we can find true spiritual refreshment and comfort in God’s care.
In His Grace,
Dawn
