Grace Notes: Gracious Seeking

“Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. Seek and deeply long for the Lord and His strength [His power, His might]; Seek and deeply long for His face and His presence continually.

        Psalm 105:3-4

“Then you will call on Me and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear [your voice] and I will listen to you. Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

       Jeremiah 29:12-13 AMP

Grace Perspective:

Seeking…looking for, desiring, searching. In both of these passages, we see a promise of God, the promise that when we seek Him, we will find Him. The LORD calls us to draw close to Him. He wants us to deeply long for Him, to desire His presence in our lives.

He also promises to hear us when we call on Him. The One who made the Universe and all it contains listens to us when we pray, hears our pleas and wants us to seek His face continually. What a humbling, awe-inspiring thought…the God of all creation wants to spend time with us and draws us to graciously seek Him.

A Touch of Grace:

What do you long for that will satisfy your soul?

What do you spend time seeking?

Grace Application:

Seeking God sounds like it should be easy, but too often, the cares of this world squeeze themselves into our thoughts when we try to spend time with the Lord. So often, we wake early in the morning intending to spend time with God, seeking His will for our day, but before long, the pressures of the day begin to crowd our minds, and we find our thoughts straying to the tasks we’re facing that day. As a result, we may become consumed with worry and fear and forget to seek Him at all.

Why does our Savior ask us to find Him? Because He knows our hearts are easily distracted by the worries of this world. He understands that in our frail human frame, we often treasure things that are worthless in light of eternity. Unbelief keeps our minds and hearts preoccupied, focused on what we see with our physical eyes. The Father desires us to trust Him with what we cannot see. God wants us to have faith enough to know that He will care for all our needs, often in ways we cannot imagine. Each day, we choose to seek Him to meet our needs or decide to attempt to meet our own needs apart from Him. Today, let’s seek His kingdom first before the cares of the day crowd our thoughts and distract us from seeking Him. Let’s make time to study His word and soak in the truth.

Before we begin, let’s pray, asking the Holy Spirit to help us not be distracted by our thoughts of pressing needs of the day. Instead of giving God part of our minds, let’s give His word all our attention. Allow the truth of Who He is to fill us. Remember, when we seek Him, He promises to be found and listens to our prayers. Rest in the truth that when we seek Him, deeply long for Him, He graciously responds by listening to our prayers and giving us strength.

Prayer:

Gracious Father, I come to You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, thankful that You call me to seek You. I confess that I allow the cares of the day to keep me from seeking You. Father, forgive me and help me to deeply long for You, especially when worry, fear, and anxiety begin to consume my thoughts. Today, I choose to trust You with (what care is heaviest in your heart). Your word tells me that when I seek, You and You will hear me. LORD, help me with my scattered thoughts and keep my heart and mind focused on what is important to You. Amen
