“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another
as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks, is to
do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is
to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so
that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom
belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
1 Peter 4:10-11 NASB
Grace Perspective:
Gifts…stewards…grace. Peter, one of Christ’s disciples, points us toward the importance of sharing the special talents (gifts) that God has given to each of us. If God gives us the gift of speaking, we are to use it to share the gospel of grace with others – speaking truth in love. If God gives us a heart to serve others, He will supply the strength to do so.
Whatever area we see that God has “gifted” us, we are to be good stewards of it. We aren’t to make too much of it – boasting about how good we are – or make too little of it – false humility. We are to use our talents so that God is glorified through Jesus Christ.
A Touch of Grace:
What gift has God given you?
How are you using this gift for His glory?
Grace Application:
Have you ever considered that the talents God gifted you with are to be shared? This passage refers specifically to the spiritual gifts God gives those in Christ Jesus. (See 1 Corinthians 12) God equips each of us uniquely to help meet the needs of others.
Some are gifted in speaking the Word of God clearly and communicating the truths of Scripture well. Others are gifted in serving others, helping wherever there is a need. God gives many other spiritual gifts, including—but not limited to—hospitality, administration, leadership, knowledge, mercy, giving, teaching, discernment, and many more. You are not alone if you are unsure what your spiritual gift is. Many spiritual gift tests online help determine how God has uniquely equipped you for His purposes. Don’t hesitate to seek guidance if you need it.
Whatever gift God gives us, we are to be good stewards of it. We aren’t to use it for our own personal gain or to harm others. Instead, we are to use the gifts for God’s glory as a way to honor Him and show others the power of Christ Jesus at work in and through us. Let this inspire and motivate you to use your gifts for His glory.
