Grace Notes – Gracious Lovingkindness
“For You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive [our sins, sending them away, completely letting them go forever and ever];
And abundant in lovingkindness and overflowing in mercy to
all those who call upon You.”
Psalm 86:5 AMP
Grace Perspective:
David wrote this beautiful Psalm and used Adonai – one of God’s names – seven times, recognizing the absolute Lordship of our Father. In this prayer, David highlights God’s goodness, abundant lovingkindness, and overflowing mercy to all who call out to Him.
David knew his own heart had a propensity to stray from God. He, like us, struggled with the sinful desires of the flesh, yet He counted on God’s quick readiness to forgive sin. David doubted, feared, and strayed from God…yet he trusted God’s lovingkindness and willingness to completely forgive all our sins – to remove them forever and ever. Davidreceived Adonai’s abundant grace because He trusted that God is who He says He is and will always forgive us when we seek His lovingkindness and mercy.
A Touch Of Grace:
What do you need to bring before God today?
What does it mean to receive Adonai’s lovingkindness and overflowing mercy?
Grace Application:
Have you ever felt like you’ve sinned so much that God can’t possibly forgive you…again? Do you have a “pet” sin that seems to plague you and seems so deeply rooted that you’ll never be free from it? David knew a thing or two about continuing to ask for God’s forgiveness. The Holy Spirit guided David to write many Psalms about God’s lovingkindness and readiness to forgive. We can rejoice that God, in His wisdom, had David experience the pain of sin and the joy of receiving God’s complete forgiveness.
God’s abundant lovingkindness and overflowing mercy are beyond our understanding. No matter how often we stumble, fall, and are broken by sin, Scripture assures us that God is always ready to forgive us. This promise is for everyone who puts their trust in God.
We may fall more times than we can count, but God is ready and willing to receive our plea for mercy and pour out His lavish lovingkindness over us. We should never make light of God’s grace, sinning just because we know He will forgive us. Yet, when we stray in disobedience, His mercy is found at the throne of grace. Let’s go there together today and rejoice in His steadfast love.
In His Grace – Dawn
Gracious Prayer:
Abba Father, I come to You in the precious name of Jesus, My Savior, thankful for your gracious lovingkindness and overflowing mercy. Holy Spirit, quickly pierce my heart when I sin and lead me to the throne of grace to receive the forgiveness our Father is ready and willing to pour out on all who seek Him. Amen.
