Grace Notes – Grace To Know

“Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.”

        2 Peter 1:3-4 NASB

Grace Perspective:

There is so much to unpack in this verse that we could spend weeks digging into it and uncovering many grace nuggets. However, let’s focus today on ‘the true knowledge of Him,’ which is essential for grounding our faith in truth and growing spiritually.

So, how do we get to know God? Do you really know Him for Who He is, not who the world wants us to believe He is? The world tries to persuade us that He is not loving, good, kind, merciful, gracious, or holy. We are bombarded with messages that try to convince us that we should be the masters of our destinies and have the power to choose how we live, love, and get our own way.

We need the corrective lenses the Bible offers to see God for who He truly is. In this verse, Peter says, “Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness…” But how will we know we have everythingwe truly need if we don’t know the Giver and the divine power He has granted us? We need to spend time with Him, seeking Him, drawing close to Him through reading His word, praying, and fellowship with others who genuinely seek Him. Remember, God is accessible to all who seek Him, which should fill us with hope and confidence as we grow in grace and peace.

A Touch of Grace:

What do you know about God?

What would you like to know about God?

Grace Application:

Knowing God, is it possible? God isn’t playing a game of cosmic Hide-and-Seek with us. He wants us to know Him, really know Him. He tells us, “But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul.” (Deuteronomy 4:29); “Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.” (1 Chronicles 16:10) “O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!” (Psalm 34:10); “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13); “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). These verses show that God is accessible to all who seek Him.

God hasn’t made it hard to know Him, but we must want to know Him. We get to choose who we want to know. Will you choose Him? I pray you will, for He wants you to know Him and experience His gracious love. His love for you is beyond measure, and I hope you will take that personal step toward a deeper relationship.
