Grace Notes – Gracious Casting
“Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all
your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you
affectionately and cares about you watchfully.”
1 Peter 5:7 AMPC
“Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will
sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail).”
Psalm 55:22 AMPC
Grace Perspective:
We are called to cast or throw with great energy all our anxieties and worries, anything that causes us concern to the Lord. God doesn’t want us to carry life’s weighty burdens without Him. These Scriptures remind us that the Lord doesn’t want us to be self-reliant or self-sufficient. He loves us and will sustain us when we purposefully give Him all the distracting, life-draining, worrisome cares. The Lord wants us to practice the gracious casting of our cares to Him, trusting Him to use stressful circumstances for His glory.
A Touch of Grace:
What care or burden do you need to cast to the Lord today?
What anxiety is a constant struggle for you to give to the Lord?
Grace Application:
So, what’s in your figurative backpack of cares you put on each day as you get dressed and sometimes even sleep next to? Are there worries or anxieties that consume your thoughts and distract you from staying in the present? Fears that steal joy and wreak havoc on your happiness?
There have been times in my life when the weight of my burdens (fear, worry, anxiety, doubt, unbelief…., etc.) threatened to squeeze the breath from my lungs. Sometimes, everyday life can be difficult because these heavy burdens consume my thoughts. Years of trying to be self-sufficient have taken a heavy toll on my mind and body. I understand the struggle, and I’m here to tell you that there is hope and relief in casting your cares on the Lord.
But grace…. God’s grace. There’s a day burned into my memory. After struggling with these heavy cares for too long, I cried out to God. Scripture reminds me that He wants me to humble myself before Him, admitting that I am not strong enough to bear the difficulties life brings without Him. Confessing the sins of self-reliance, I listed all the worries, fears, and anxieties, everything weighing me down. I released them to the Lord and trusted Him to sustain me.
This exercise is something I should do daily (sometimes hourly) as I want to take them back to see if I can handle their weight on my own. Honestly, I have to confess the sin of stubbornness frequently. I ask God to remind me to cast all my cares on Him daily. I’ve found that He alone can carry the burdens with ease. He is gracious in His love for me, the messy soul that I am. He watches over me and sustains me day by day.
What’s He calling you to cast upon Him today? Do it…He cares for you and wants to relieve your burdensome anxieties and worries. He’s watching over you and cares for you. Trust Him by graciously casting all that weighs you down to Him. His care is a secure and unwavering love that will never let you down.
Prayer
Gracious Father, I come to You In the precious name of Jesus Christ, my Savior, casting all my burdens to You. Forgive me for trying to carry them without You. Forgive my sin of self-reliance and unbelief. You promise to care for and sustain me as I trust You with life’s heavy burdens. May You be glorified for who You are. Amen
