Grace Notes – Gracious Hold

“Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word]; 24 and let us consider [thoughtfully] how we may encourage one another to love and to do good deeds.”

                  Hebrews 10:23-24 AMP

 Grace Perspective:

To hold means to keep a firm grasp on something. The writer of Hebrews reminds us that we are to seize and hold tightly to our confession of hope, that Jesus Christ made a way for us to draw near to God. As Peter reminds us, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 1:3)

We can hold tightly to our hope because God is reliable, trustworthy, and faithful. If God said it, we know that He will keep His promise. Nothing can separate us from His love, plan, and ultimately eternity with Him. Therefore, we can firmly trust the promises of God and encourage each other with the truth God has a gracious hold on us.

A Touch of Grace:

What do you firmly hold on to?

What tempts you to let go of your hope?

 Grace Application:

I don’t know about you, but it seems like the world is becoming more chaotic. With wars, rumors of wars, skyrocketing fuel, food prices, and multiple controversies swirling around us, I need something that I can firmly grasp to keep me from losing hope and spiraling into a dark place.

This passage in Hebrews reminds us that in Christ Jesus, we are safe. We can hold tightly to the truths and promises found in Scripture. Our faith in Christ will help keep us steady when the chaos around us impacts our lives. We can’t control the weather, gas prices, viruses, wars around the world, or other people, but we can control our thoughts. When we choose to cling to the promises of God, holding fast to what is true, the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds.

As the world’s troubles push into our comfortable spaces and tempt us to worry and fear, let’s remind each other of the truth. God is faithful. If He makes a promise, He will keep it. So what assurances can we encourage each other with today? Here’s one to get us started.

“There is no power above us or beneath us—

no power that could ever be found in the universe

that can distance us from God’s passionate love,

which is lavished upon us through our Lord Jesus,

              the Anointed One!”

                                             Romans 8:39 TPT

Prayer:

Gracious Father, I come to you in the precious name of Jesus Christ, my Savior, thankful that You are reliable, trustworthy, and faithful. Help me to hold fast to this truth when I am tempted to doubt, fear, and worry. Forgive me when I let my fears consume me, and I forget your promises. Holy Spirit, help me to cling to the truth that Jesus Christ is the anchor of my soul, and He holds me fast. Amen.
