Grace Notes: Gracious Knowldege

“Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.  For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.”

                              2 Peter 1:3-4 NASB

Grace Perspective:

There is so much to unpack in this verse that we could spend weeks digging into it and uncover many grains of grace. However, today let’s focus on “the true knowledge of Him.” The Hebrew word used here means precise and correct knowledge. Having an accurate view of God is imperative so that we are grounded in truth.

So, how do we get to know God? I mean, really know Him for Who He is not who the world wants us to believe He is? The world tries to persuade us that He is not loving, good, kind, merciful, gracious, or holy. We are bombarded with messages that try to convince us that we should be the masters of our own destiny, that we should have the power to choose how we live, how we love, how to get our own way.

We need the corrective lenses the Bible offers so we can see God for Who He truly is. In this verse, Peter tells us that “Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness…” But how will we know we have everything we truly need if we don’t know the Giver and the divine power He has granted us? We need to spend time with Him, seeking Him, drawing close to Him through reading His word, praying, and fellowship with others who genuinely seek Him. Take time to get to know Him, really know Him, and grow in grace and peace as His precious and magnificent promises unfold before you.

A Touch of Grace:

What do you know about God?

What would you like to know about God?

 Grace Application:

Knowing God, is it possible? God isn’t playing a game of cosmic Hide and Go Seek with us. He wants us to know Him, really know Him. He tells us, “But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul.” (Deuteronomy 4:29); “Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.” (1 Chronicles 16:10) O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!” (Psalm 34:10); “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13); “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

God hasn’t made it hard to know Him, but we have to want to know Him. We get to choose who we want to know. Will you choose Him? I pray you will, for He wants you to know Him and experience His gracious love.

Prayer:

Gracious Father, Thank you for calling me to know You. You promise that if I seek You, I will find You. Help me, Lord, to know You more deeply. Correct any wrong thoughts I have about You and lead me into a deeper, more precise understanding of who You are. Today, Lord, I choose You, because You chose me. In the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, Amen.
