“Therefore, since we have been justified [that is, acquitted of sin, declared blameless before God] by faith, [let us grasp the fact that] we have peace with God [and the joy of reconciliation with Him] through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed). Through Him we also have access by faith into this [remarkable state of] grace in which we [firmly and safely and securely] stand. Let us rejoice in our hope and the confident assurance of [experiencing and enjoying] the glory of [our great] God [the manifestation of His excellence and power].”
Romans 5:1-2 AMP
Grace Perspective:
Romans 5:1-2 reminds us that through faith in Jesus, we are declared blameless before God. We are joyfully reconciled to Him because Christ graciously paid the price for our sins on the cross. In Christ, we have peace with God as grace securely ties us to the Savior.
The plan for our redemption was set in place long ago, and we see a scarlet thread of grace woven throughout Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation. In Genesis 3, we see sin slither into the perfect garden causing division, distrust, and unbelief in God’s goodness. Yet, in the same chapter (3:15), God reveals that He knows what is required for us to be restored to Him. As we continue through the Bible, we see God’s grace manifested in people’s lives. He chose to reveal the power of His grace to those who are sinful, broken, ashamed, poor, outcast, depressed, distressed,….all in need of salvation.
A Touch of Grace:
What story in the Bible encourages you to remember God’s grace?
How do you see grace woven into the story of your life?
Grace Application:
Grace is sewn throughout the Bible in the stories of people God used to show us His plan. God saved Noah, his family, and animals of every kind from the flood that destroyed all living creatures on the earth. He placed them on an ark and lifted them out of harm’s way. God chose Abraham and Sarah to have a child in their very old age, so there was no doubt the Lord fulfilled His promise to give them a son. God chose Joseph to endure slavery and then elevated him to a place of power to save his family and all of Egypt during a famine. God chose Moses to lead the Hebrews out of their bondage in Egypt. God chose Rahab, a prostitute, to safely hide two spies who were on a mission for the Lord. God chose David, a shepherd, to be a King. God chose Jeremiah at a young age to be a prophet to warn of the consequences of idolatry. God chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus. God chose John the Baptist to preach repentance and the coming of the Messiah. God chose to send Jesus, His Son, to pay the penalty for our sins. Jesus chose to obey the Father so that we are redeemed. God chose the disciples who spread the Gospel of Grace from Jerusalem and beyond. God chose Paul to bring the good news to the gentile nations so that all who believe Jesus is the Son of God who died for our sins and repents are saved from Hell. God chose the apostle John to write Revelation to encourage followers of Christ to remain steadfast in their faith as they wait for His return.
The Bible is filled with people God chose to reveal His plan of grace through. I can’t begin to write of all the lives that were transformed, redeemed, restored, and healed because of grace. Take time today to discover just how richly the threads are sewn together to reveal God’s glory through Scripture. Know that the last gracious thread will be sewn together one day, and we will see Jesus face to face.
Prayer
Gracious Father, I come to You In the precious name of Jesus Christ, my Savior, thankful for the thread of grace woven throughout Scripture. This scarlet strand reminds me that You always had a plan to redeem me from my sin. Forgive me when I struggle to remember that Christ provided the scarlet thread of grace that binds me to Him forever and that nothing can cut this unbreakable cord. Help my life reflect the joyful hope and assurance I have because Christ is my Savior. Amen
